ABOUT THE PARK
The City of Hermantown dedicated the City's first Passive Park last July during Summerfest 2007. The park is located behind old City Hall and is adjacent to the Fichtner Field recreational complex. The Passive Park was designed as a family park with a modern picnic shelter and landscaping. In 2008, the Park Board will be adding new playground equipment designed for children ages 5 to 12 years old near the picnic shelter and the swings and volley ball court will also be moved closer to the picnic shelter.
The picnic shelter has two charcoal grills and the shelter has electrical outlets for small appliances. Gas grills and open fires are not allowed in the picnic shelter. Alcohol is not allowed in any city park, fire works and loud speakers are also not allowed in the park. Reservations must be made in person at City Hall, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM.
Hermantown residents and organizations can reserve the picnic shelter for family and social events during the summer season beginning in May for $25. There are two time slots available each day, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Sunday. A $75 damage deposit is required and reservations must be made 14 calendar days in advance of the date that is being reserved. Non-Hermantown residents can also use the facility but the charge is $50 with a $100 dollar damage deposit.
